Diploma in Project Management

Overview: The SoAfrSPM Diploma in Project Management Program develops a range of soft and technical skills necessary to deliver projects successfully.    The program teaches the skills and knowledge needed to manage projects in various contexts and sectors. It covers the project management cycle: initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and controlling, and closing.  It also covers the key aspects of project integration, scope, cost, schedule, quality, resources, communication, risk, procurement, and stakeholders.  The Diploma in Project Management at SoAfrSPM is designed for individuals who are passionate about managing projects, solving problems, and driving success in various industries. 

Namibia Qualification Authority (NQA) Level: 6

Duration: The program is approximately one year long.

Modules: The program includes two (2) core classes and six (6) project management modules, plus a capstone project. 

• Core Module 1: Academic and Personal Success

• Core Module 2: Technology Basics for Project Management

• PM Module 1: Foundations of Project Management

• PM Module 2: Project Planning - Part I (Scope, Schedule, Cost, and Quality)

• PM Module 3: Project Planning - Part II (Resources, Communications, Risk, Procurement, Stakeholders, Agile)

• PM Module 4: Project Executing, Monitoring, and Controlling

• PM Module 5: Agile Project Management

• PM Module 6: Advanced Technology Tools for Project Management

• Capstone Project

Academic Year: The program starts in August and concludes in July of the following year.   

Inaugural Year: The program will launch on 1 August 2024 with the first Diploma in Project Management cohort.

Timetable: Students attend approximately one (1) class per month.  

Mode: Some modules are 100% online, and some are blended (a combination of face-to-face and online) delivery.   Students are on campus three times per year.

Academic Staff:  All program lecturers are certified project managers, Project Management Professionals (PMP).  All program tutors are certified project managers, Certified Associates in Project Management (CAPMs).

Required Work Experience: An applicant must have a minimum of four (4) years of work experience. 

African Roots with Internationa Wings:  All of SoAfrSPM's academic programs are coupled with an internationally recognized certification.  All Diploma in Project Management students are simultaneously prepared for the Certifed Associate in Project Management (CAPM) exam.  Learn more about SoAfrSPM's African Roots with International Wings philosophy.  Candidates for the CAPM exam must meet the eligibility requirements established by the Project Management Institute.

Admissions Pathways: To enroll in the Diploma in Project Management, candidates can qualify through one of two pathways:

1. Standard Qualification Entry: Hold a relevant Level 5 qualification from a recognized institution.

Timetable. At SoAfrSPM, we understand the challenges of balancing school, work, family, and other commitments. To ensure our students can plan effectively and manage their time like true project managers, we provide a comprehensive timetable that includes not only class dates but also assignment deadlines, test dates, exam schedules, tutorial sessions, and more. This detailed schedule is available well in advance, allowing students to map out their academic journey with confidence. For example, by July—long before classes even begin—enrolled students already know the due date for their team assignment in April of the following year and the exact dates for their second-semester exams in May.  The public versions of our timetable are below (only enrolled students receive the detailed timetable).
